Description

Hidden behind their event horizons, black holes harbour singularities of spacetime. It has long been debated what is the actual nature of these singularities. Recent theoretical developments suggest that quantum effects strongly influence their macroscopic nature. I will outline some of this findings in this colloquium and provide glimpses at the mathematical structures that underly these theoretical developments.
