Charting the Evolution of Stellar Cradles in Galaxies through 13.5 Billion Years of Cosmic History

Description

The assembly of baryonic mass along the nodes of the cosmic web since
the Big Bang has produced the rich diversity of galaxy properties we
observe today. The intricate baryonic physics that drive the formation
of supermassive black holes and stars—through dynamical, accretion,
and feedback processes—are most effectively traced through the various phases of the interstellar medium (ISM) and their evolution over
cosmic time. I will show how recent studies with major facilities such
as ALMA, JWST, NOEMA, and the VLA have substantially advanced our
understanding of how different physical processes leave their imprint
on the ISM, on stellar populations, and even on the cosmic microwave
background. I will conclude by discussing how upcoming facilities,
including the CCAT/FYST telescope, will open an even broader region of
parameter space for probing galaxy and star formation across the full
history of the universe.
