Heavy quarks in the Quark-Gluon Plasma

During the last 40 years after the publication of the seminal Matsui&Satz paper on the dissolution of heavy quark bound states in the Quark-Gluon Plasma the study of heavy quarks produced in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collision developed into a very active field of research. Heavy Quarks turned out to provide versatile probes for the analysis of properties of the QGP.

This workshop aims to bring together theorists and experimentalists engaged in the exploration of properties of the Quark-Gluon plasma using heavy quarks as a probe to discuss and further develop the current state-of-the-art analysis of strong-interaction matter at high temperature and density.

The workshop will address a broad spectrum of topics, including:

  • color screening and the heavy quark potential
  • dissolution and regeneration of heavy-quark bound states
  • quasi-particle excitations in the QGP
  • thermalization of heavy quarks
  • heavy quark transport

A special session of the workshop will be devoted to the celebration of the 90th birthday of Helmut Satz.
