Description

Xinjiang Astronomical Observatory (XAO) owns a series of observation stations with exceptional radio environment and geographical merits. The Qitai 110-meter full-steerable radio telescope (QTT) is a flagship large astronomical facility here. With no other large radio telescopes within 2500 km, the site guarantees high-quality astronomical observations. This report presents the current development of XAO, the technical characteristics, construction progress and main scientific targets of QTT. It also discusses the facility's role in VLBI networks and frontier astronomical studies, as well as its future development and international cooperation prospects.
